The Dark Cosmic Bat

In the constellation Ophiuchus is a dense collection of gas and dust that has a peculiar shape. The collection is so dense that it blocks out all light but for a few patches.
However, inside this dark and ominous-looking collection of gas and dust is a lot of activity because it is actually a stellar nursery – a place where stars are born. The bright portions are areas lit up by some of these young stars., which are only about 11 million years old.
Due to its shape that is reminiscent of a flying bat, astronomers call it the “Dark Cosmic Bat”
